Wisdom vs. Beauty

Wisdom I know is social. She seeks her fellows. But Beauty is jealous, and ill bears the presence of a rival. Thomas Jefferson

Tall womens' clothing info.

Ok, ladies, here's some more information.

I've now field tested another tall clothing site. I've placed two orders now from www.longtallsally.com in the UK. I own a frill grandad shirt, which I love dearly, and an awesome striped denim jacket. They have some really fun styles, so sad I missed out on their black victorian shirt, but I was surprised to learn that shipping isn't as bad as I expected. I think it ended up being about 10 pounds or $20. If you get items on sale, the prices are fine. The only things to be aware of: the fit is different than I expected. The waist was a little larger, and the bust was a lot smaller than I'm used to. I've never ordered British clothing before... maybe this is standard fit in Britain (made for a woman with a smaller bust than US sizes?). The sleeves on long sleeve clothing are barely long enough for me, as well (I'm 6'3"). Both items I've ordered from them get constant use, though... and I recommend their clothing.

Also, www.metrostyle.com has a lot of regular tall sizes in work pants, suits, tops and jackets. I ordered their tall cuffed workpants because they were cheap and machine washable... they were too long for me to wear with flats, even though they weren't ultra-talls or extra-long sizes! Take a look at their workpants; I've learned that if I order tall sized pants that cover part of the models' high heels in the pictures, they're more than long enough for me (even though I need a 36" inseam). Very comfortable and machine washable, and long enough without letting out the cuffs. I wish the rise were longer, but they're still fine.
Wide-footed women: metrostyle also carries shoes in 12Wide. Sadly, they don't carry size 12 regular! Maybe if we pester them they'll start carrying regular width shoes in size 12 as well.

www.zappos.com is still my favorite source of tall women's shoes.... love that free shipping and 365 day free return policy!!

Tall Ladies' Clothing

Ok, folks,
It's high time I finally start a list of some of the sources of tall women's clothing for women who're beyond "tall" sizes.

www.jcpenney.com
J. C. Penney carries some pants in ultra-tall sizes, but not as many as they used to (they used to have a tall women's catalog, but alas, they discontinued it). They also carry plenty of tops and jackets in regular tall sizes.

www.sixxfoota.com
Sixxfoota is a new high-end tall women's clothing line. I own one of their lovely leather jackets (the motosixx, to be exact). They carry leather and fur jackets, pants and skirts; they will be coming out with a new line of jeans this coming fall.

www.tallandall.com, www.longtallsally.com
the above two sites are based in the UK.

www.longelegantlegs.com
This company carries some very elegant styles. Nice name, too.

www.alloy.com
This is a juniors' style site, but they carry lots of jeans and pants with 36" inseam. Way to go, Alloy!

www.tallgirlshop.com
One of my favorite pairs of office pants is from their Manhattan store. The downside is that most of their clothes are dryclean only.

www.eddiebauer.com
Eddie Bauer carries no extra long clothing at all, but they carry a lot of tops in tall sizes online(something harder to find than regular tall pants). Their idea of a tall long sleeve shirt is still too short for me, but they've been a good source of outerwear for me. Their LONG down jacket has kept me warm in some freezing winters.

www.gap.com
While The Gap and its affiliates (Banana Republic and Old Navy) are some of the worst companies as far as fair trade practices go, The Gap has started carrying extra long pants. (Extra Long sizes are online only.) They're so nice! I own a pair of long and lean jeans... and they're wonderful. I wonder if The Gap will listen if enough people push them to get better about fair trade policies.

Rock & Republic Jeans
Some Rock & Republic Jeans have 35" inseams, which is long enough for some of us. They run in the $200-250 price range and are available at a variety of stores, including Neiman Marcus, Nordstroms, and a variety of other stores if you do an internet search for the brand name.

That's it for now, folks, but check back later for more sources of very tall women's clothing. If any of you know of other sites, please let me know in a comment!

Large footed women, unite! (and mod folks, too)

Here are some sources of large fashionable shoes for women:

http://www.zappos.com/ (my favorite... with free shipping and free return shipping!)
www.designershoes.com
www.onlineshoes.com
www.marylandsquare.com
more to come later!

Velvet Illusion is a fun British store with mod clothing (not made for tall women, but still fun): http://www.gogo.org.uk/main.htm
I liked it more when I thought it was "Velvet Allusion"...
but they sell a pretty awesome "6" handbag, fun mod jewelry, and the mod dresses. Basically, psychadelic/mod/gogo clothes and accessories.

To go with those great dresses, I found a site with ladies gogo boots for drill teams (means cheap and probably comfortable, with a wide range of sizes): http://www.marchingworld.com/pg085d.htm, and http://www.band-martaccessories.com/footwear.html

Here's another site I love with fun tshirts and prints:
www.gama-go.com
Astro's my favorite character, but he's sadly not on their tshirts this season.
